We’re well into Autumn now, and discussions at our sister site, Smallholders Online, are beginning to turn to maintenance and over-wintering, sewing green manure crops, clearing out polytunnels and all those “battening down the hatches” chores. If you’re not already a member, why not join? It’s a sharing of practical advice, support and tips? Here’s the joining link.
Bees
Phil Chandler, WFA Director and author of The Barefoot Beekeeper, has published this podcast of highlights of the 2011 Natural Beekeeping Conference.
And remember that if you’re a beekeeper and you have problems or questions, the forum at Phil’s website, Biobees, is a great resource.
Chicken combat!

Katie Thear has a very useful series about the different causes and how to deal with them.
She discusses issues ranging from how to introduce new hens to the flock to how mineral deficiencies can trigger aggressive pecking habits and attacks.
It’s a four-part series. Click here to read Part 1, then just click the links at the bottom of each article to move on to the next.

With a keynote speech by Patrick Holden and a list of workshops including Quality Testing (co-facilitated by our own Matt Adams) and The Future of Cultivated Seeds, this looks sure to provoke some interesting discussions.
